Secret: Fear was written at the same time as Peace and in the same airport. It is ominous to think as we were waiting for our delayed connection, and I wrote this, that it would be so foretelling of what was about to come. In my own life, I was tired of being afraid. Making every decision on playing it safe. So tired of thinking. just wanted all the fear in my life to go away.

Secret: When The Shock and Awe event happened during the Gulf war… I was defiantly in shock. I was glued to CNN. One evening they showed a refugee camp. They thought hundreds to thousands of people would show up. Instead, one woman, and her 4 small children showed up. They videoed her in this little tent, with her children gathered around a fire making tea. I was so sad. I thought… I am no different than her. I just want to protect my children as she does. I wrote her this song. Part of it is what I say to her, and part of it is what I imagine her saying to me. I keep that woman in my prayers still today. I just can’t imagine what her life has been like, and if she and her children are even alive.

Secret: This song is my all time favorite. As I watched the bombs blow up in Iraq, I knew that every fire meant if not a quick death, than a long and horrible death. As horrible as the fire was, I also had the image of the woman in the refugee camp making tea, and how that fire was going to keep her family warm that night, and how absolutely beautiful that fire was. It is amazing how one thing can have so many meanings and purposes in this world. There are so many parts to a whole. All of us are made up of this complicated equation.
